Macau casino junket investor Suncity Group Ltd is offering a voluntary resignation scheme to employees, according to media reports citing a memo said to have been sent to its employees.
It included an address to staffs by Suncity boss, Alvin Chau Cheok Wa. The scheme offers some bonuses and benefits, including compensation, additional allowances and partial payout of social security contributions.
According to industry insider, possibly only a couple of VIP gaming promoters or junkets will be left in Macau in future, as the sector continues to face headwinds not only from the impact of the pandemic, but also because of the Chinese central authorities’ concern about gambling activities outside the borders.
VIP baccarat, which in 2019 accounted for as much as half of all Macau casino gross gaming revenue, accounted for 38.6% of the city’s GGR in the three months to March 31, according to government data.
Recently, several Macau casino operators have announced forms of either voluntary exit or career pause for workers amid the business slowdown during the pandemic.
Galaxy Entertainment Group said in April that it was offering pit supervisors in its table games department a payment of MOP380,000 if they wished to resign “voluntarily”.
Melco Resorts and Entertainment launched on May 4 multiple voluntary programs designed to help those of its staff with Macau ID to reach personal and professional objectives.
