Melco establishes MOP$5 million fund to assist vulnerable workers
Target beneficiaries of the fund donation include workers and self-employed people.
Melco Resorts & Entertainment has established a new MOP$5 million Special Aid Fund, in conjunction with Macao Federation of Trade Unions (FAOM), to assist workers in need.
The fund, which follows Melco’s HK$20 million donation to Wuhan and Hubei to help curb the outbreak of this event, is aimed at supporting community members with unstable incomes and who are particularly impacted by the event outbreak.
Target beneficiaries of the fund donation include workers and self-employed people such as taxi drivers, coach drivers and tour guides, their families and more, Melco said, adding that it will work closely with the FAOM to identify eligible beneficiaries and distribute the funds.
“Melco stands hand in hand with the local community through these particularly difficult times,” said Melco Resorts Chairman and CEO Lawrence Ho.
“Our thoughts and concerns go to those families and persons affected by recent events, and we are grateful for the help of Macao Federation of Trade Unions for working with us and the community to fight against the event . We will continue to work closely with the government to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our customers, colleagues, as well as their families and the community. We will do everything in our power to continue supporting those in need.”
The Special Aid Fund for Workers in Need will be distributed by the FAOM.
