First dates released for 2020 World Series of Poker
The World Series of Poker has released preliminary dates for the 51st running of the WSOP, with the world’s most prestigious poker tournament series to run for seven weeks from 26 May to 15 July 2020.
Although the exact number of bracelet events to be held across the 51-day series is yet to be finalized, dates for the US$10,000 WSOP Main Event have been confirmed with the first of three Day 1 flights kicking off on Wednesday 1 July. The Main Event final table is scheduled for 12 to 14 July.
The dates of two other events have also been confirmed – the US$500 buy-in BIG 50 No Limit Hold’em event starting Thursday 28 May and the US$1,000 Seniors Event from Thursday 18 June.
The schedule for other individual events is due to be finalized and releases in early 2020.
The WSOP was first held in 1970 when Benny Binion invited seven of the world’s best poker players to compete in a winner takes all competition at the Horseshoe Casino in Las Vegas.
Since then it has grown to become the largest and most prestigious tournament series in the world, with the 2019 WSOP featuring 90 bracelet events, a record 187,298 entries and total combined prizemoney of over US$293 million.
Fifty-five-year-old German Hossein Ensan won the 2019 WSOP Main Event, outlasting the second largest Main Event field of all time to claim the US$10 million first prize.
“We can’t wait to open our doors for the 2020 World Series of Poker,” said WSOP Executive Director Ty Stewart. “Summer can’t come fast enough, and we look forward to welcoming poker players from all over the globe back to the Rio in Las Vegas to award gold bracelets and hundreds of millions of dollars.”
